YAZ, also known as Yasmin or by its generic name, Ocella, is a birth control pill originally developed and manufactured by Berlex Laboratories. It is a combination birth control pill that contains two different types of hoomones, estrogen and progestin.
Berlex Labs claims that YAZ is the only birth control pill that can prevent pregnancy, help treat the emotional and physical symptoms of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), and reduce moderate acne. Because of these qualities, it became the top-selling birth control pill in the U.S. In 2008 alone, more than $600 million dollars of YAZ sales were made in the United States. Berlex Labs, however, has already had many lawsuits against them for broadcasting misleading commercials.
